Terms of Service

By downloading, installing, or using TripSum (the "App") or accessing our website (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the App or Site.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and TripSum ("we," "our," or "us"), based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

TripSum is a travel expense management application that provides:

• Receipt and price tag scanning with optical character recognition (OCR)
• Real-time currency conversion across 150+ currencies
• Trip-based budget tracking and expense categorization
• AI-powered smart insights, categorization, and receipt parsing
• Cloud sync across devices
• PDF export for expense reports

Cloud features may be provided through different backend providers depending on region and network routing, including Firebase and Apple CloudKit.

You may use certain features of the App without an account (guest mode). To access full functionality, including cloud sync and unlimited AI features, you must create an account using a supported sign-in method.

Available sign-in methods may vary by region and network routing. In most regions, account sign-in may use Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In through Firebase. In supported mainland China routing, sign-in may use native Sign in with Apple and CloudKit sync. CloudKit sync requires iCloud enabled on your device and an eligible Apple ID.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access or use.

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Interfere with or disrupt the App's infrastructure or services
• Use automated systems or bots to access or interact with the App
• Upload malicious content, viruses, or harmful code
• Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation
• Exploit the App's AI features for purposes unrelated to travel expense management
• Attempt to circumvent subscription limitations or access controls

TripSum offers a free tier with core functionality and TripSum Plus, a premium subscription with enhanced features.

TripSum Plus subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store and are subject to Apple's terms and conditions for in-app purchases. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.

You may manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store settings. Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies.

The App, including its design, code, features, graphics, and content, is owned by TripSum and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.

The TripSum name, logo, and all related marks are trademarks of TripSum. You may not use these marks without our prior written consent.

TripSum's AI-powered features — including automatic categorization, receipt parsing, smart insights, and price tag interpretation — are provided on a best-effort basis.

AI outputs are not guaranteed to be accurate. You should verify any information generated by AI features before relying on it for financial decisions. TripSum is not a financial advisory tool, and AI-generated insights do not constitute financial advice.

Exchange rates provided by the App are sourced from third-party providers and are informational only. Rates may differ from those offered by banks, credit card companies, or currency exchange services. TripSum does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of exchange rate data.

You retain full ownership of all content you create or upload to TripSum, including trip data, expense records, receipt images, and notes ("User Content").

By using the App, you grant TripSum a limited, non-exclusive license to process, store, and transmit your User Content solely for the purpose of providing and improving the App's services. This includes sending anonymized data to AI services for feature functionality and routing content through required service providers/subprocessors as described in our Privacy Policy.

We do not sell, share, or use your User Content for advertising purposes.

Your use of TripSum is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information, including how data is handled by third-party AI services. By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

THE APP AND ALL RELATED SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, TRIPSUM SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Without limiting the foregoing, TripSum is not responsible for:

• Inaccuracies in exchange rates or AI-generated outputs
• Financial decisions made based on information provided by the App
• Feature unavailability caused by regional network restrictions, iCloud status, or third-party provider outages
• Data loss due to device failure, network issues, or third-party service outages
• Unauthorized access to your account due to compromised credentials

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms, is harmful to other users, or is otherwise objectionable.

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and intellectual property provisions) will remain in effect.

If you have used more than one backend path (for example, Firebase and CloudKit), data deletion may be processed separately for each path.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the App or our website. Your continued use of TripSum after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the App.
